Why does no one talk about this…
A few updates, as promised, before I talk about today’s special topic.
The international client chose to fly their own team from overseas instead of giving me the project, likely for cost reasons. South African Rand is stronger than their currency, and I am sure they must have received similar quotes from other videography companies in South Africa before making this decision. I'm not surprised or disappointed; what’s meant for me will come, and I’m content with that.
I am at the last stretch of editing my Adobe Lightroom Editing course; I will share that with you once it’s public.
IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY
Today, I will share my journey of fighting depression and mood disorders with you. I used to be discreet about it, but not for many years now. If my words can help someone, that’s one life pointed towards a path towards healing.
I never understood why I was like “that” as a child. I was pretty anxious, moody, and depressed growing up, especially as a young adult, but I learned to hide it well because I was always asked to “man up”. Those around me did suffer from my behavioural patterns, and I also felt judged at all times. There’s stigma attached to seeking help, either from a therapist or a psychiatrist, and I also see a lack of acknowledgement and awareness around this topic. Even some doctors I know show resistance against seeking help, which is shocking. Ten years ago, I sought help, and life has been a thousand times better.
Children need to be given a safe environment by their parents and elders to express their emotions, anxiety, depression and irritability. Instead of shutting them down, they must be encouraged to discuss it so you or a professional can guide them. I would love to know what your feelings are around this topic.
I will leave you to watch my video to see the story I have created as a short film. Do share it with those whom you feel need help.
